writing about writing

the number of the bulb: i don’t know how i got here

Hey! Been a minute, because it’s always been a minute when I write these. Can you believe it’s almost 2025? I guess I can. Merry late Christmas and happy New Year.

I have to say I’m doing alright, despite the fact that the sun sets by 4 pm. As always, I had set a vague goal and then didn’t reach it and instead did something else. Wisp hasn’t been published yet, fwd 2.0’s still missing some content, I totally said I’d post that novella and then I didn’t.

I’m not too bugged about it, though. I’d like to think I took an unexpected turn and am going down a different street, and I’ll get back to whatever I was doing later.

It’s overdue, but I think looking back at my art over the past year, where I stand now, and my goals might be the best way to help my viewpoint align with reality. Hopefully? No, probably not. Continue reading

Winter 2022 – The Final Recap

What’s this? What’s going on? Why the sudden change? Is Somnolescent falling apart? I bet it is–look, people’s sites are disappearing! Something big is happening. We said it wouldn’t last four months, and hey, three years isn’t too far off–

Grab some wood there, bub. The blog is not going anywhere, nor is the group. This is the final recap in its current form. There’s a very good reason for it, and I think the new arrangement will make my friends in the group, as well as myself (having to write all this…), happier as a result. It’s a good recap though! Lots good happening. Let’s revisit the last three months one last time.

Two Years Glowing: 2020 in Review

Things were much different around Somnolescent when I wrote 2019’s yearly recap. For one thing, I was stuck in a dirty bedroom in Ohio, but mostly, the group was still growing, still trying to sum together our edges. We were close, but still guarded. Emotions were high. We knew there was more to get out of the bulb.

And yeah, here we stand! Five days ago passed the two-year anniversary of Somnolescent. We’ve never been more confident, comfortable, productive, focused. We have someone new aboard. We’re constantly expanding our empire and exploring new ground–I even just took up drawing somehow!

While we’ve been mostly good about our monthly recap series this year, Christmas always marks the time to gather it all up and speed through it–and we still have a ton to get through. There’s art and philosophy buried in the pile too! It’ll be fun. Come celebrate! Continue reading
